Police officer arrested over ‘armed robbery’ in Niger state

Jido Ahmed, a mobile police officer, has reportedly been arrested over an armed robbery incident that left a fuel attendant dead in Kontagora LGA of Niger state.

Citing sources within the Niger state command, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focusing on the Lake Chad region, said the suspect was attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara area of the state.

Several police officers were confirmed arrested in Nigeria for robbery and related violent crimes. Most notably, a serving Mobile Police (MOPOL) officer was apprehended following a fatal armed robbery at a filling station in Niger State.

The Suspect: Insp. Jido Ahmed, a serving officer attached to 61 PMF Kontagora.

On April 15, Ahmed and an accomplice, riding a motorcycle and dressed in police uniform, attacked the Garun Mallam filling station in Kontagora.

The robbers shot and killed a 20-year-old fuel attendant, Jibrin Inuwa, after he resisted them.

Police teams engaged the suspects in a gun duel in the Dadinkowa area. Ahmed was shot in the leg, overpowered, and arrested with an AK-47 rifle and 12 rounds of ammunition.

Hotel Raids and Extortion (Lagos State):
Sergeant Yakubu Aiyegba (Oworo Police Division) and retired ASP Obosa Augustine.

On April 15, they were arrested alongside a taxi driver during a raid at Ehis Hotel in Egbeda. They were known for posing as SARS operatives to rob and extort guests.

: On April 14, the Edo State Command announced the arrest of a nine-member syndicate that included six police officers involved in the harassment, abduction, and extortion of residents.

Other Major Police Operations
The Force Intelligence Department (FID-IRT) announced on April 13 that it had arrested 50 suspects linked to robbery, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country.

“One-Chance” Arrests (Calabar): On April 16, two suspects were arrested in Calabar for a “one-chance” robbery of a nursing student in a commercial minibus.

Abuja Car Theft Syndicate: The FCT Command paraded 14 suspects on April 15, recovering 17 stolen vehicles used in various robbery operations.
