Peter Obi may emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, prsidential candidate as the party zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to the south, 2031 to the north.
The decision was taken on Saturday at the party’s national convention in a resolution adopted after a motion moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi.
The party also resolved that this southern tenure will be for a single four-year term, after which the ticket will automatically return to the North in 2031.
The motion for the zoning arrangement was moved by Afam Victor Ogene and seconded by Seyi Sowunmi.
Party leaders stated that the rotation aims is to promote equity, fairness, and national unity.
The decision was publicly backed by major party figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently joined the NDC.
This arrangement effectively clears the path for southern aspirants like Peter Obi to contest in 2027 while positioning northern figures for 2031
