Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, says Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance has demonstrated the nation’s resilience, commitment to democratic values, and capacity for peaceful transfers of power across political parties and regions.
Speaking at the 2026 Democracy Day Public Lecture in Abuja, Akume noted that activities marking the celebration began with special Jumat prayers, an interdenominational church service, and a World Press Conference, all designed to underscore Nigeria’s diversity, democratic freedoms, and collective aspirations for a stronger future.
