Thousands gather at Redemption City as RCCG’s 72nd convention begins

Thousands of members and Christian adherents have been trooping into the Redemption City on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Mowe as the Redeemed Christian Church of God begins its annual convention on Monday, August 5, 2024.

The 72nd edition of the convention with the theme “Heaven” holds from Monday, August 5, to Sunday, August 11, 2024, at The Redemption City.

Thousands of worshippers are expected to be physically present for the convention at the Redemption City.

Highlights include the ordination of new deacons and deaconesses on Tuesday, August 6 and pastors on Sunday August 11, teachings and the Friday Holy Ghost Night.

Guest houses and hostels in the Redemption City and its environs had already been fully booked by worshippers.

Vehicular traffic into the camp has been building up from Monday, and expected to intensify by Friday for the much-awaited Holy Ghost night.

General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had, during the July 5, 2024, Holy Ghost Service themed “Refuel Your Fire”, said the 72nd edition would be “a convention like you have never seen it before”.

“Whenever they ask you what is the vision of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have always said number one, we want to make it to heaven and number two we want to take as many people as possible with us,” he said of the theme.

Adeboye urged the congregation to do their “very best to inform friends, relatives, and co-workers about the convention.”

“It is going to be very wonderful; we would be discussing themes like as pure as light,” Adeboye had said.

The RCCG is said to have a membership strength of over nine million across the world, with five million estimated to be from Nigeria.

Since 2018 when the church unveiled a 12 million capacity auditorium at The Redemption City, Mowe Ogun state, attendance of participants on site at the annual convention has grown.

At the convention, attendees are usually availed of free meals at designated points within the camp.

The church, on its social handle, said “RCCG 72nd Annual Convention is free, not sold out and open to everyone! Do you want to experience Heaven on Earth? Join us from August 5 to 11, 2024 at The Redemption City, Mowe Ogun state.”
