Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel Addresses Economic Hardship at Philanthropic Event

His Excellency Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who represents the Ogun East Senatorial District and is a former Governor of Ogun State, has openly acknowledged the challenges posed by inflation. Speaking at a recent event on September 16 at his Palatial Obalofin Court in Ijebu-Ode, organized by the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF)—a philanthropic initiative he established in 1991—he admitted that even as a serving senator, he is not immune to its impacts.
The gathering marked the distribution of the second batch of the Interest-Free Microcredit Scheme and Agricultural Empowerment Program, aimed at supporting small-scale entrepreneurs and farmers in Ogun East.
Senator Gbenga Daniel’s GFF initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to petty traders, artisans, and small-scale farmers, helping them grow their businesses and enhance their contributions to the local economy. In addition to offering capital, the foundation distributed fertilizer to support agricultural development in the area.
In his address titled “A Message of Hope and Resilience,” delivered in Yoruba, Senator Gbenga Daniel acknowledged the difficult economic landscape but underscored that hardship could be temporary if the right decisions are made. “Things are tough in the country, but we must look ahead with hope. Whatever will become good often has unpromising beginnings. I urge you not to give up on the nation,” he encouraged the gathered crowd.
He expressed his confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the situation, saying, “I know President Tinubu, and I can assure you that he is a man of his word—he will fix things.” Daniel praised the President’s efforts to provide welfare packages through the National Assembly to alleviate the effects of inflation on the populace.
He emphasized that the empowerment initiatives conducted through the GFF reflect his long-standing passion for uplifting ordinary Nigerians and are not contingent upon his current political role. Since its inception, GFF has been a crucial platform for socioeconomic development in Ogun State, especially Ogun East, maintaining a tradition of supporting grassroots efforts, regardless of political status.
With his proactive engagement with constituents and a deep understanding of the nation’s challenges, Senator Gbenga Daniel’s unwavering commitment to economic and agricultural initiatives will continue to yield tangible benefits for communities across Ogun East Senatorial District and Ogun State, even amidst adversity.
