The Baba Adinni of Lagos State, Alhaji Sikiru Alabi-Macfoy, has been arraigned before Tinubu Chief Magistrate’s Court, by the operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti-Yaba, Lagos, over alleged impersonation.
He was arraigned before the court presided over by Magistrate Martins Owunmi on Wednesday, on the alleged offence in a charge number TB/34/2025, sequel to a petition allegedly written to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, by the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sulaiman Abou-Nolah.
The police had alleged that the Baba Adinni conduct himself in a disorderly manner, by calling himself the Chief Imam of Lagos.
The charge against the Baba Adinni reads: “that you Alabi Mcfoy Sikiru ‘M’ on or before February 2025, at Central Mosque Lagos Island, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conduct yourself disorderly by presenting yourself as the chief imam of the above Mosque, disrupting public lectures of the substantive Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law Lagos State of Nigeria.”
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and admitted to bail in the sum N200, 000, with one surety in like sum.
The surety according to the presiding Magistrate Owunmi, must be gainful employment and have evidence of three years tax payment.
Further hearing of the matter has been adjourned to April 16, 2025.
Some of the faithfuls of the mosque who spoke on the development stated that the Baba Adinni, Alhaji Sikiru Alabi Macfoy, was arraigned before the court, without any prior notification, after honouring police invitation.
He was said to have gone to present himself at the SCID, Panti, Yaba, based on accusation made by Messers Lateef Bakare, Azeez Aboaba and Salvador, who represented the Chief Imam at the Panti Police Station and “along with their own (Police) preliminary investigation.”
