Obasa ‘presides over plenary’ with four lawmakers

Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted speaker of the Lagos house of assembly, has presided over a “plenary session” with only four lawmakers in attendance.

There are 40 members in the state assembly, but the majority refused to participate in the session on Thursday, despite being present at the assembly complex.

Security operatives reportedly forced open the chamber doors to allow Obasa and his supporters access.

He was accompanied by Ayinde Akinsanya and Noheem Adams, who represent Mushin constituencies I and II, respectively.

Earlier in the day, Obasa declared his return as speaker after arriving at the assembly complex with his security detail.

He maintained that his removal did not follow due process.

“I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not democratic.”

Obasa was removed on January 13 while he was abroad, with Mojisola Meranda sworn in as his replacement.
