Ijakadi, a Yoruba local boxing usually takes place at Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. This year’s Annual Ijakadi Festival in Offa, Kwara State, billed to be held between December 26 and 28, 2024, will showcase the culture of the people as a catalyst for the community’s cultural heritage, economic growth and development.

The Chairman, Media and Communications Committee, Dr Waheed Olagunju, disclosed this in a statement made available to The PUNCH in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

Commenting on this year’s edition, Olagunju, revealed that the organisers are committed to maintaining the momentum initiated by Offa indigenes in the previous year.

The statement read, “This year’s Ijakadi Festival, set for December 26 to 28, 2024, will be themed, ‘Cultural and Creative Sectors: A Vehicle for Economic Growth and Development.’ The festival commences on December 26, 2024, with joint denominational prayers by Muslim and Christian clerics to be jointly led by our revered Chief Imam of Offa, Sheik Muideen Abdulsallam, and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria in Offa by 10 am.

“This will be followed immediately by this year’s annual lecture titled, ‘Evolution of our Offa compound names as a way of approaching and promoting our cultural heritage,’ to be delivered by Dr Lawal M. Muhammed, at the palace,” among others.

It noted that the festival’s grand finale will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Offa Township Stadium ,where our rich cultural heritage will be displayed.

“The Festival will be rounded off with a grand royal dinner at our Kabiyesi’s Palace. This year’s Ijakadi festival promises to be richer and better,” the statement added.
